From Rot to Refined: A Shed Remodel That Lasts
When a client in Raleigh contacted us about replacing their old shed, it wasn’t just an upgrade—it was a rescue mission. The original structure had become a haven for bugs, birds, squirrels, and mice, with extensive rot from years of trapped moisture. We knew this new build had to be sturdy, sealed, and smartly designed.

Prevention and Waterproofing
We began construction on a raised floor using treated 2x10s on 6×6 beams—elevated for airflow to prevent future rot. The underside was sealed with solid vinyl soffit to block out potential “critters”. A ¾-inch subfloor followed, sealed with two coats of waterproofing before the frame went up.

Exterior Finishing
For the exterior, we used Forcefield sheathing, taping every seam to keep out water and pests. Vented soffits ensured proper roof ventilation. We finished with PVC trim and two coats of Sherwin-Williams paint to match the home.

Inside organization
Inside, we laid down durable stone powder core LVP flooring. The walls were lined with aromatic tongue-and-groove cedar—a natural insect deterrent that also smells amazing. A modular shelving system from The Container Store gave the client flexibility for storage, and double doors made for easy access. In a cost-saving, eco-conscious move, we even reused two windows from the original shed, bringing in ample light without wiring electricity.

Finishing Touches
This wasn’t just a shed—it was a complete transformation. And most importantly? The customer was thrilled.
