Transforming a Screened Porch into a Stunning 3-Season Room

Sharpman Construction recently had the opportunity to transform a client’s old screened-in porch into a beautiful, functional 3-season room. This project involved careful planning, craftsmanship, attention to detail, and we’re excited to share the process with you.

Structural Design and Planning

The project began with hiring Stonewall Structural Engineering to create a design that exceeded basic requirements. This ensured the new space would be durable and safe for long-term use.

Demolition and Framing

Next, we carefully demoed the existing porch while maintaining support for the roof. Afterward, we framed the new walls according to the engineered design, adding a masonry curtainwall between the existing masonry piers to protect against lateral wind forces.

Windows and Doors

With the walls in place, we installed 8 Marvin glider windows with transoms above, flooding the space with natural light. A new full-light entrance door with matching transoms added both beauty and functionality, seamlessly integrating with the room’s design.

Finishing Touches

Our in-house team took care of the final details. We installed LVP flooring for a stylish and durable finish, matched door hardware to the existing fixtures, and completed some minor landscaping to enhance the outdoor area. To maintain the home’s cohesive look, we sourced Certainteed Cedar Impressions siding from Beacons Supply, which perfectly matched the existing exterior. The project was permitted by the City of Raleigh, and we received a certificate of occupancy with no issues.
